A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel, Helen Hoang’s first book proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.
Heart-tugging, sexy and utterly joyful – The Kiss Quotient is a book for anyone who has been in love, or in lust…
It’s high time for Stella Lane to settle down and find a husband – or so her mother tells her. This is no easy task for a wealthy, successful woman like Stella, who also happens to have Asperger’s. Analysing data is easy; handling the awkwardness of one-on-one dates is hard. To overcome her lack of knowledge in the dating department, Stella decides to hire a male escort to teach her how to be a good girlfriend.
Faced with mounting bills, Michael decides to use his good looks and charm to make extra cash on the side. He has a very firm no repeat customer policy, but he’s tempted to bend that rule with Stella’s offer of an unconventional proposal.
The more time they spend together, the harder Michael falls for this disarming woman with a beautiful mind, and Stella discovers that love defies logic.
Totally Booked UK Review: Feeling the added pressure from her parents (her mother, mostly) about settling down and having children, Stella worries that this might never happen for her as she finds intimacy too overwhelming. Her day-to-day real life is managed with routines and analysing data. Her Asperger’s is something that she is embarrassed about, and she fears that others will treat her differently.
A comment from a co-worker (and the man that her mother would like her to date) about how she should get some practical practice if she wants to be successful in a romantic relationship leads her to look for a teacher. A teacher will show her how to manage all the physical aspects of a relationship so that when she does get a date, she won’t freeze up or not enjoy the experience.
Step in escort Michael Phan, whom Stella hires. He is patient and kind to her and, despite his usual practices, agrees to three additional repeat appointments to guide her through emotions and physical contact.
They are hiding secrets and feelings that go beyond client relations – can they overcome all the obstacles? It is a love story highlighting the issues an autistic woman faces with high-functioning autism as well as the responsibility and pressure that families can come with.
