There are two very special visitors at the playgroup today – Dr Brown bear and Nurse Fox! Peppa Pig and her friends find out how to keep fit, stay healthy and wash their hands really well! But when the children take their turn at being doctors and nurses, will Dr Brown Bear be a good patient?
Over the years I have experienced both sides of the NHS, from working in various roles over a 15-year career to the love and support that they have given me and my family members. Roo and Tigger can recall visiting me at work when I worked for a Community Hospital. However, Piglet was born just before it closed and I was made redundant. She has made up for missing her introduction to the NHS with various ailments in her four years. Most notably with her tonsils and subsequent tonsillectomy.
This year has highlighted the NHS within everyone’s lives with their help, support and love given as they fight against the Coronavirus outbreak. It’s been a difficult transition for us all, children especially feeling overwhelmed with the changes to their schedules and the restrictions. Thankfully there are a number of resources available to help our children understand the importance of the way things are at the moment. The new Peppa Loves Doctors and Nurses book from Ladybird offers children the opportunity to learn from one of their favourite characters the importance of keeping fit, healthy and hand washing.

It’s People Who Help Us day at playgroup, so Peppa and her friends get a very special visit from Dr Brown Bear and Nurse Fox! They’ve come to show the children how to keep fit, eat healthy snacks and, most importantly, always remember to wash their hands!
Our thoughts
This is a charming storybook that parents can read to their children to help them understand how doctors and nurses help us. Showcasing the importance of keeping fit and active, hand washing and selecting healthy snacks. With Nurse Fox helping Peppa when she falls on the obstacle course, providing care and compassion when Peppa was in pain.
Just like the rest of the classic Peppa Pig songs (the Bing Bong Song anyone?), they have created a catchy song for the children to sing whilst they wash their hands. One that has been played on the TV during episodes so we were very familiar with it and it all broke out in song as we came across the words in the book.
