I came back to town for closure…
And found a daughter I never knew I had…

After caring for a patient in the hospital following a fall which resulted in a broken hip, nurse Penny McKnight was happy to take up the offer to continue the care at home. As a single mom, she has had to juggle her hospital shifts alongside her daughter Katie. Thankfully her sister Lottie has been home over the summer to help with childcare. Her new job will allow her to bring Katie along after she has been to preschool in the mornings. This was a big reason why she took the job, knowing that Katie’s dad would be signing her paychecks but wouldn’t have to see him or introduce him to the daughter he doesn’t know he has.

Returning home to check on his grandmother, Chris finds himself emcee of an awards ceremony giving an award to Mason McKnight. Knowing that the whole McKnight will be there to support him he looks out to see Penny looking as beautiful as ever. Surprised to see she has a daughter but thinks that if she is happy it will help him gain closure over his leaving almost five years ago to pursue his dreams in California.

Their paths cross when Chris realised that it is Penny who will be caring for his grandmother. Wanting to learn more about her life he asks questions that she’s not ready to answer. Conflicted about letting him know the truth about Katie, Penny tells some white lies to appease him. Hoping that he won’t be staying long enough to catch her out but he halts his fake romance with a fellow starlet. She kisses him re-igniting everything they had between them. But as his career comes between them again is it closure that they have gained?

I promised my best friend I’d take care of his family…
But Sadie doesn’t want me within ten feet of her. Still, I try.

A year ago Sadie’s husband, Adam, was killed in action. Being a military wife she always knew the risk that one day he wouldn’t return from duty. He’d volunteered for additional tours which left her at home, looking after their son Parker alone. Losing him was sad and in a way heartbreaking yet their lives had been apart more than they had been together so not an all-encompassing grief. She has worked hard to provide a life for Parker she’s about to return to college for a nursing degree but gets served notice on her apartment. Her friend suggests a new place to stay but doesn’t go into the details.

Returning home after his time in the army, Mason has largely pushed his traumas into a black box in his mind. Never dealing with the issues, simply attempting to live a life as a local Sheriff and help his family. He thinks about his promise made to his best friend Adam to look out for Sadie and Parker. He has loved her from afar since high school but stood in the shadows of Adam. Sadie understandably hates the sight of him, which will be interesting considering she’s just about to move into the apartment above his garage.

Attempting to navigate a sort of living arrangement whilst Parker pulls them together between sports, BBQs and chats about school. Mason is frustrated by her actions seeing her with an old school classmate and having double dates and fights. Unsure of her feelings towards Mason, she’s attracted to him but feels a sense of guilt in some way. But as they attempt to cross lines Mason realised that he needs to unpack his PTSD before their potential life together can start.

I wanted to be the man she turned to. I wanted to be her hero, her Knight, her best friend, the first one she kissed each morning and the last one she loved each night.
