Liam

That feeling you get skating across the ice, legs burning, adrenaline pumping. It’s unmatched. Much like my current stats.

Hockey has always been my sole focus, getting to the playoffs, winning the Stanley Cup—that’s my number one goal.

I won’t let the fact that I’ve just been traded to a new team derail my future. Nor will the daughter of the so-called King of Canada, aka my new boss. Aliyah, the gorgeous, feisty brunette who’s just been assigned as my official “babysitter.”

Although, when you’re trapped in a room with a temptation like her, there’s only so much restraint one man can have.

I probably should have listened to the rumors about the owner of the Vancouver Knights being Canada’s most ruthless and feared mob boss. Because when he finds out what I’ve done with his daughter, it’s not just my career on the chopping block.

It’s my neck.

Both, I’m willing to risk. For her. To save her.

Aliyah

When your whole life is mapped out for you, choices aren’t a freedom you’re granted.

You do whatever it is you’re told to do.

So, when my father tells me he needs me to watch over one of his new recruits, even though spending all of my free time with a cocky-ass hockey player is the last thing I want to be doing, I agree.

Why?

Because nobody says no to Jacob Monroe and lives to tell the tale. Not even me.

I mean, how hard can it be? It’s one guy. A hockey player.

Liam King. An athlete with a physique carved out of stone, and a smirk that not only melts my panties off but sets my whole body on fire.

An inferno I can’t help but give in to and a desire I can’t help but feed.

He’s not part of the plan. He’s temporary. Dropping in and passing by. I just need to get my heart to understand that I can’t keep him.

No matter how much I might want to.

“You’re wrong. It’s my business because you’re mine, Aliyah. If you don’t wanna accept that we’re destined for each other yet, that’s okay. I’m patient. But don’t think for one second that I’m going to share you with anyone else, while I wait for you to work up the courage to actually take something you want in life,”

Totally Booked UK Review: As the youngest child and only daughter, Aliyah is still finding her place in the family business. Her father owns the Vancouver Knights NHL team and is the Don of the Canadian crime family. Called into a meeting at The Castle, Aliyah is pleased to hear her father is giving her a job to complete, although she is not impressed when she hears that she has been tasked with babysitting the new recruit and transfer, Liam King.

NHL sniper Liam King thought he would stay with Montreal for his entire career. That was until he punched his coach before the Stanley Cup for sleeping with his married mom and bragging about it. Transferred to Vancouver Knights, he knows he’s in for a tough time, especially since he hasn’t told anyone the reason for the altercation. He finds out that the team has assigned him a babysitter, and he is not happy, but having Aliyah close by is a bonus.

Determined to show her father how good she is and to keep Liam’s name out of the spotlight in a negative fashion, Aliyah puts her all into the assignment. Liam pushes her buttons by heading out for drinks when he should be at home, etc. But he is also there for her as nightmares return and the pair open up about past traumas. Lia believes that she is unlovable following a childhood of abuse from her mother. Liam is determined to show her how lovable she is, even if it means going against her family.

Kathryn

Everything was perfect until it wasn’t. Nobody warns you that it can all be taken away in the blink of an eye.

Now my life revolves around working two part-time jobs to make ends meet while taking care of my daughter alone. Ensuring she doesn’t drown in my grief.

When Graycee asks to play hockey, I scrape and save enough to sign her up for the local youth league. The smile on her face as she steps out onto the ice makes every sacrifice worth it.

It’s the same smile I used to see on her father whenever he played too. The smile that still haunts me to this day. The one I never thought I’d see again in person.

But somehow those dark eyes and that cocky-as-shit smirk are staring right back at me. Grayson Monroe, the man I’ve been hiding from in plain sight for the last six years.

Grayson

I didn’t want to believe it at first. Kathryn Kilgor, a girl I never thought I’d see again. She’s here. In this rundown skating rink, meant to host Vancouver’s next generation of hockey players.

I searched for this woman for years and couldn’t find her. Now that I have, I realize she’s not alone. She has a daughter. A little girl, with the same set of dark eyes that look back at me every time I stare into a mirror.

Still, I don’t want to believe that Kathryn would do this. She wouldn’t hide a child from me, my child from me. I gave this woman everything. My heart, my soul, my fucking dignity. And she stepped on it like it was worth nothing.

The panic on her face shouldn’t excite me. But I’ve been hurting for six years now, all because of her. I’m thinking it’s time my runaway ex felt some of that pain too.

Travis

Red. You could say it’s my favorite color.

There’s nothing like seeing the lights go red after I’ve scored a goal.

The red she paints her lips, f***ing hypnotizing.

That’s the image I choose to focus on now.

It’s a hell of a lot better than the red of the blood currently staining my shirt. Or the red of the flashing lights surrounding me.

When I wake up in a hospital bed, my first thought is those red lips and the girl who owns them.

Except she’s not here.

Liliana

Most men I date are scared away as soon as they meet my family.

Travis isn’t most men. He’s stared down the barrel of my father’s gun without flinching.

He should have run, though.

If he had, he wouldn’t be lying in a hospital bed right now.

I never wanted to believe my family would be capable of doing this. But that little voice in the back of my head likes to remind me of who I am. Who I’ll always be.

Liliana Valentino, daughter of Theo Valentino, the current Don of the Valentino Crime Family.

Sometimes you have to break hearts to keep them beating. At least that’s what I’m telling myself as I walk away from the only man brave enough to fight for me.

Light It Up Red: Vancouver Knights Book 3 by Kylie Kent

“How can I live without the one person in the world who makes me feel more alive than I ever have before? How can I live without the person who is my reason for living? That’s you, in case you were wondering. You are mine, Liliana Valentino, and nothing is going to change that. Ever,”

Luke

Some things are off-limits. My best friend’s little sister has always been one of those things.

Years later, I can still hear his voice in my head telling me not to go there.

The fact those warnings are coming from beyond the grave doesn’t help matters either.

Especially when part of me is hellbent on ignoring him.

The thing is, now that I’ve crossed that line, there’s no going back.

Because Montana Baker is everything I’ve always wanted and can’t have.

Montana

I’m not the same girl he remembers. It’s been three years since I’ve seen him. Since I’ve become a broken shell of the person I once was.

Before my brother died and left me alone in the world… Before I turned to the wrong men for comfort… Before I lost myself…

But when Luke Jameson looks at me, it’s not with pity. It’s not with disgust. It’s like he sees the old me.

I can’t let him get mixed up in the mess that is my life, though. Which is why, despite how good it feels when he touches me, I’m already saying goodbye to the only man I’ve ever loved…
