Myth 1: Dyslexia Goes Away with Growth of the Kids

This is one of the most enlarged myths around the world, which is generating fake hopes among many parents as well as children. Dyslexia is not like other diseases which vanish away after having medication. It’s something that lasts forever. The dyslexic signs will always be there.

Myth 2: Only People with High Intelligence Have Dyslexia

It’s absurd. Dyslexia and intelligence are not related to each other at any point. These two things are like parallel lines which will never intersect each other. It could happen to anybody regardless of their status being intelligent or not.

Myth 3: Dyslexia and ADHD are the Same Disorders

Everyone can differentiate between these two diseases. Dyslexia occurs only with language-based learning. While ADHD results in uncontrollable behaviour in kids as well as grown-ups. Calling both of them the same doesn’t make any sense at all.

Myth 4: Dyslexia Individuals are Lazy and Non-intellectual

Dyslexic individuals aren’t lazy at all. They avoid learning things because it’s confusing for them. Dyslexia affects some parts of the brain that slows down the learning ability of a person. Hence, it leads him/her to avoid the painful process of learning. And thus, they are called lazy ones.

However, with suitable training, they can speed up their learning process. This won’t affect their mental state at all and they can learn more rapidly than an average dyslexic.

Moreover, dyslexics are said to be non-intellectual. But it’s not true at all. There are so many people in this world who are at the top of their fields regardless of their dyslexic state. It’s because they have trained themselves so hard that nothing could stop them from achieving what they wanted.

Myth 5: Dyslexia is a Gender-based Disorder

This is the biggest false myth among all of them. People say only boys have dyslexia. Such disorders can’t be gender-based. Numerous girls and boys are suffering from this disorder. So, on what basis is it based on gender? Let’s stop believing that myth.

Myth 6: Dyslexia Happens Only in a Specific Language

Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that reduces the ability to learn language-based things. It applies to all the languages in this world, not to any specific one. A person with dyslexia suffers difficulty in all languages. However, with time and continued practice, one can learn any language.

Final Words

Dyslexia is a neurological condition that occurs in many kids. With practice, however, one can overcome it. But still, it doesn’t guarantee that it’ll go away permanently.

Remember, Richard Branson, a British entrepreneur is also a dyslexic. Yet, he is an extraordinarily successful man. And several other extraordinary people suffer from it. But still, they made their way to the top.
