Lucy In The Sky by Paige Toon
Published 4th September 2007
Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK
Format: Paperback, Audiobook and Kindle Editions
Pages: 404
Settling down for a 24-hour flight to Australia, Lucy finds a text message on her phone – not from her boyfriend James, as she fondly hopes, but from a woman claiming to have slept with him four times in the past month. Trapped on the plane, she questions everything about her relationship with James. She finally calls him and he reassures her: it was only his mates playing a silly joke.
James is a lawyer, persuasive and gorgeous and Lucy adores him. So why, at the wedding in Sydney of her best friend Molly, does she have niggling doubts, and find herself attracted to Molly’s brother-in-law Nathan? The sooner she gets back to her regular life in London, the flat she shares with James, and her job in PR, the better. Nathan is a happy-go-lucky surfer boy, with no prospects, no place to live, an almost-girlfriend in tow. And the other side of the world…
Lucy – a girl caught between two distant continents – and two very different men…
Totally Booked UK Review: Lucy is about to complete a long haul flight back to Australia, the place she called home until she was in her late teens. Heading back for the wedding of her two best friends she is excited to be seeing them again, although she did have a crush on Sam when she was a teenager. As she is about to put her phone away on the plane she receives a text from her boyfriend James who isn’t able to make the trip with her. Suddenly her world comes crashing down and she is left unable to contact him to find out what is going on for the next few hours.
James puts the text down to a childish prank by one of his workmates and Lucy attempts to push it out of her mind. However, she keeps thinking about all the silly white lies that James has said throughout their relationship and she’s not sure whether to trust him or not – especially whilst she is away in Australia for a couple of weeks.
Reunited with Molly and Sam she is starting to feel back at home when Sam’s younger brother Nathan comes over and suddenly Lucy is feeling all jittery at the sight of him. The more time she spends with Nathan the easier it is to talk to him, join him in surfing and get drunk together. But it can’t lead to anything, can it?
Whilst I enjoyed the story, I did feel it was a little hypocritical of Lucy to be judging James for ‘cheating’ when she was lusting after Nathan whilst she was in Australia.

A year ago, Bronte left Sydney for a wedding in England, where she met newly single Alex. After one amazing night together they parted ways.
Now working on the picture desk for glossy women’s magazines in London, Bronte is about to meet a new colleague – who turns out to be all too familiar. Alex is now engaged, but the memory of the spark they felt when they met hasn’t died. As Alex’s wedding day looms, it is clear that he and Bronte have unfinished business…
Totally Booked UK Review: Bronte has come over to the UK from Australia for her old friend’s (Polly) wedding. Even though she doesn’t believe in marriage and it’s part of the wedding party. However, it was a chance to visit the UK. During the hen night, she spots Alex leaning against a pillar in the club playing on his phone. On her way to the bar, she grabs his phone as a bit of fun. Looking up the sparks fly immediately.
Fresh out of a relationship Bronte is newly single although she hasn’t confided that fact to her friend yet. Whilst Alex is ‘on a break’ from his long-term girlfriend Zara – her decision not his. At the end of the night, he walks her back to her hotel and they spend the night together. With Alex getting a text message from Zara and Bronte heading back to Australia, it was just a one-night fling… wasn’t it?
Returning to the UK 18 months later for a job, Bronte is confronted by the man she hasn’t stopped thinking about – Alex. Whilst working at the magazine during the week, Bronte has started helping out photographing weddings on the weekends as a favour to a friend of a friend. Throughout the book, she completes thirteen weddings (the clue is in the title). With her life interweaving with Alex, Lachie (the wedding singer) and dealing with problems from her past.
It didn’t end how I thought it would, whilst it still works as an ending, I just pictured it a different way – hence why I could only give this one 4 stars.

The short story eBook sequel to Thirteen Weddings, from bestselling author Paige Toon is a much-needed read if you disagreed with the ending of the original story.
Totally Booked UK Review: Three and a half years after we left Bronte behind back in Australia. Still living in Manly with Lachie she is still working for the magazine, although she has opted to leave wedding photography behind. Never quite getting over the last wedding she completed – Alex and Zara’s wedding.
Receiving an email from Alex telling her that he’ll be in Sydney for three weeks in October her world is once again put into a spin. Not that she has ever forgotten (or moved on??) from Alex. Suddenly she is questioning life around her, from her career to her desire to have children.
Featuring several of the characters from Paige Toon’s novels this short ebook offers the chance to revisit the love triangle of Bronte/Alex/Lachie as well as tie up loose ends from The Last Piece of My Heart, Lucy in the Sky and One Perfect Summer. I’m so pleased that Paige Toon opted to update the story as I feel it offered the ending that I’d originally hoped for, however, although drawn out it does work much better than if it had happened straight away – a must for a fan of Paige Toon books.

Blinding sunshine… A bend in the road… What became of the little girl with the sun in her eyes?
Amber was three when a car crash stole her mother’s life. She doesn’t remember the accident, but a stranger at the scene has been unable to forget. Now, almost thirty years later, she’s trying to track Amber down.
Amber, meanwhile, is married to Ned and living on the other side of the world in London. When her father has a stroke, she flies straight home to Australia to be with him. Away from her husband, Amber finds comfort in her oldest friends, but her feelings for Ethan, the gorgeous, green-eyed man she once fell for, have never been quite disappeared.
As Ethan and Amber grow closer, married life in London feels far away. Then Amber receives a letter that changes everything: ‘Before your mother died, she asked me to tell you something…’
Totally Booked UK Review: The journey starts with Amber having a bad day, from finding her husband on the sofa (and vomiting), being made redundant to finding out her dad has had a stroke back in Australia. She heads home a couple of days later leaving Ned in the UK (and his boss Zara). Reconnecting with her old friends and life, Amber is splitting her time between caring for her dad and having fun. Childhood friends, Ethan who she has loved since she was eight years old is back on the scene and their friendship heads for a new level after some drunken confessions.
I’m not sure how I feel about this story. Whether it’s the hypocrisy of Amber being jealous of Ned’s boss when she is flirting etc with Ethan. Or her ability to forget her life in the UK for the chance to follow up on what never happened as a teenager. It ends better than I expected but not my favourite read from Paige Toon.

When life feels like a puzzle, sometimes it’s the small pieces that make up the bigger picture… Join Bridget on a journey to put her world back together.
A successful travel journalist, Bridget has ambitions to turn her quirky relationship blog about the missing pieces of her heart into a book. But after a spate of rejections from publishers, she accepts an alternative proposition.
Nicole Dupré died leaving behind a bestselling novel and an incomplete sequel. Tasked with finishing the book, Bridget is thankful to have her foot in the publishing door, even if it means relocating to Cornwall for the summer and answering to Nicole’s grieving husband, Charlie…
Totally Booked UK Review: Bridget is a travel writer who has an idea for a book about regaining the pieces of her heart back from the people she has loved in the past. The idea is that she can then give the biggest part of her heart to her one true love. Her publishers don’t seem convinced by the idea, however, offer her a deal to ghostwrite a sequel for a novel written by a writer who passed away before she was able to finish it. This sparks a journey to Cornwall and into the life of Charlie (the writer’s widow) and their baby daughter April.
A page-turner that I didn’t want to finish, although the ending might be a little predictable it didn’t make it any less wonderful.
