The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour brings authors, illustrators and a variety of other creative practitioners to schools, libraries and public venues.

Reading is one of life’s essentials; whilst it helps with day to day life it also opens the door to a whole new world through the magical world of books. I can still remember Roo bringing home her first reading book from school that had just a few words in it. Watching her as she formed the words and slowly but surely managed to recognise and read more words. Her love for reading has continued and she can often be found with her nose in a book. Last weekend as a special treat I managed to take her to see her favourite author Jacqueline Wilson.

I’m not the only person who is passionate about children reading, I’d like to hope that most parents feel the same way when it comes to their children. Scottish Friendly also feel the same way, they have been sponsoring the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour for the past 15 years, a relationship that they are looking to continue for many years to come.

The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour

The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour (organised by Scottish Book Trust) takes the very best UK and international authors directly into schools across Scotland and the UK to inspire a love of reading, writing and illustration.

Every year they host six tours; four in Scotland and two in England visiting an array of different schools from the smallest schools with just 8 pupils to filling large auditoriums with 400 pupils. Visiting an average of 6,000 children every year, it takes around three years to visit all of the local authorities in Scotland.

Over the past 15 years, many authors have travelled the country alongside the book tour including Malorie Blackman, Michael Rosen, Jacqueline Wilson, Melvin Burgess, Steve Cole, Michael Morpurgo, Chris Riddell and Sophie Mackenzie.
