Hallelujah Junction was left abandoned overnight by all its inhabitants. Their lives were left behind in the homes they loved in, the places they worked and the school house where the children attended. For the past 20+ years, Richard has been the warden/ranger there to protect the old mining community from tourists etc. Finding Ember by the side of the road after a supply run to a nearby town he takes the then five-year-old with him.
