Author Sophie Ranald is the youngest of five sisters. She was born in Zimbabwe and lived in South Africa until an acute case of itchy feet brought her to London in her mid-20s. As an editor for a customer publishing agency, Sophie developed her fiction-writing skills describing holidays to places she’d never visited.

In 2011, she decided to disregard all the good advice given to aspiring novelists and attempt to write full-time. After one false start, It Would Be Wrong to Steal My Sister’s Boyfriend (Wouldn’t It?) seemed to write itself, and more novels have followed. Sophie also writes for magazines and online about food, fashion, finance and fitness. She lives in south-east London with her amazing partner Hopi and their two adorable cats.

A Groom With a View by Sophie Ranald

When you’re tying the knot, you can end up in a tangle…

Pippa and Nick have been an item since forever, but they’ve always said marriage isn’t for them. That’s until, in a moment of mad romance, they find themselves engaged.

Pippa knows she’s no bridezilla – and she’s definitely not expecting Nick to get swept off his feet by plans for floral centrepieces, vintage cake stands and colour-coordinated everything. Then Nick’s mum gets involved and secrets from Pippa’s past threaten to surface…

Will planning their perfect day tear Nick and Pippa apart?

Totally Booked UK Review: I struggled to get into this book. Pippa and Nick have been together more or less since they were sixteen years old. Despite attending weddings of their friends they’ve never considered tying the knot themselves. A drunken night leads to a proposal to each other and the ball starts rolling on their wedding.

A story about relationships (romantic and that with your in-laws), picking your battles and finding a happy ever after.

Sorry Not Sorry: The perfect laugh-out-loud romantic comedy by Sophie Ranald

Published 13th February 2019

Format: Paperback, Audiobook and Kindle Edition
Pages: 366

A fabulously feel-good novel that will make you laugh till you cry and leave you living life to the full, margarita in hand! If you’re a fan of romantic comedies by Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk or Matt Dunn, and love TV shows like Girls, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin, you won’t be able to put down this hilarious read.

Sorry Not Sorry by Sophie Ranald

Is this all there is? I scraped the last dregs of Caramel Chew Chew ice cream out of the bottom of the tub with my finger and licked it. It left a sticky smear on my phone’s screen when I typed into Google, “How to find love, sex and happiness.”

Charlotte has always been a good girl. But being good is getting boring…

She’s not just stuck in a rut – she’s buried in it up to her chin. The only company she has in bed is the back catalogue of Netflix and falling in love feels like the stuff of fairy tales. So when she stumbles across a popular podcast, ‘Sorry Not Sorry’, which challenges women to embrace their inner bad girl, she jumps at the chance to shake things up.

Old Charlotte would never ask for a stranger’s number, go on a blind date or buy lacy lingerie… But New Charlotte is waving goodbye to her comfort zone (with a side order of margaritas). And it turns out that good things happen to bad girls…

It’s Not You, It’s Him: An absolutely hilarious and feel-good romantic comedy by Sophie Ranald

Published 18th June 2019

Format: Paperback, Audiobook and Kindle Edition
Pages: 410

A fresh, funny and fabulous novel for anyone who has been dumped, got a post-break-up haircut, stalked an ex on Facebook, and then realised they were WAY better off without them. Fans of Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk and Matt Dunn will love this laugh-out-loud read.

It's Not You, It's Him by Sophie Ranald

New Year’s Eve. The most over-rated night of the year, right? I have to get through a night of enforced fun, drink all the prosecco and talk about new beginnings. But I don’t want new beginnings. I want my old beginning back.

It’s been ten days, two hours and forty-three minutes since Tansy got dumped. Two heartbreaking weeks since Renzo, who made her weak at the knees and dizzy with excitement, found out Tansy’s secret – and ended it on the spot.

Since then, she’s spent every evening scrolling through their old photos, drunk-texted him twenty-six times (he stopped reading after five), and lost count of how many packets of Kleenex she’s cried her way through.

That’s where Operation Get Renzo Back comes in. She ropes in a new wing-woman, maxes out her credit card and accidentally-on-purpose bumps into him at every opportunity. Oh, and she finds a fake boyfriend, as you do…

But while she’s busy pretending, Tansy’s plan is thrown a major curveball. She has to learn the hard way that it’s not her, it’s him – and that sometimes, a break-up can end up being the making of you.

Out with the Ex, In with the New: An utterly perfect feel-good romantic comedy by Sophie Ranald

Published 3rd December 2019

Format: Paperback, Audiobook and Kindle Edition

Out with the Ex, In with the New by Sophie Ranald

You know when you sleep through your alarm, trip over running for the bus, and then someone points out that your dress is stuck into your hotdog-print knickers? That’s basically my life right now.

Gemma didn’t expect her life to look like this. She’s still living with her mother, who steals her leggings and tells her off for leaving crumbs in the butter. After twenty failed interviews she thought she’d got her dream job as a journalist – except it turns out to be writing articles about cats that look like George Clooney. Luckily she has her wonderful boyfriend, Jack, to help her forget just how awful things are.

Then Jack dumps her out of the blue. With nothing but her childhood teddy bear, Stanley, and a whole heap of heartbreak, Gemma resolves to turn things around. She throws herself into her new job and soon she’s hanging out with cheeky, golden-haired hunk Charlie, eating in swanky restaurants and sipping trendy cocktails – and her old life seems like a distant memory.

But it’s not long until her shiny new world starts to lose its sparkle – and Gemma misses the days of wearing battered pink Converse and eating peanut butter on toast in bed. Then Jack turns up, backpack in tow, and things start to go wrong with Charlie. ‘Out with the old, in with the new’, the saying goes. But what happens if neither one is quite right?

No, We Can’t Be Friends: A totally perfect romantic comedy by Sophie Ranald

No, We Can’t Be Friends is a brilliantly relatable, fiesty and feel-good novel that every woman with a waste-of-space ex HAS to read! No, We Can't Be Friends by Sophie Ranald

He was perfect. Denim-blue eyes, a dazzling smile. And he hadn’t sent me a picture of his junk. Which is about as rare, these days, as a Dodo.

When Sloane met Myles, everything fell into place. He loved a Martini almost as much as she did, shared her passion for four-cheese pizzas, and made her laugh harder than any episode of Friends. She’d found The One at last and she could finally delete Tinder, forgetting all those waste-of-space men she’d never have to date again.

But then she finds out that Myles has a secret. A very big one.

The fairytale is over. Her heart is blown to smithereens. Drowning her sorrows in Ben & Jerry’s can only get Sloane so far before she has to decide… Can she learn to love herself more than she loved the love of her life? And what if, after everything, she’s got Myles – and his secret – all wrong?

Just Saying: An absolutely perfect and feel-good romantic comedy by Sophie Ranald

Format: Paperback, Audiobook and Kindle Edition

This fabulous, feel-good page-turner is for anyone who has ever felt a little lost in life and turned to a bottle of wine to get you through! Fans of romantic comedies by Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk, and TV shows like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin will love this utterly relatable read.

Just Saying by Sophie Ranald

When the inflatable hot tub my boyfriend hired for a surprise deflated with me in it, spilling water everywhere and almost flooding our flat, I should have known it was a sign…

Could things get any worse? First Alice gets fired from her job as a lawyer out of the blue, and she has absolutely no idea what to do with her life. Then she and her boyfriend Joe bump into his ex, Zoe, with her annoyingly glossy hair and sparkling smile. And now they can’t afford the rent on their flat and Alice might have to cut back on her gin and tonics, the one thing getting her through.

With her life crumbling around her, Alice ends up ugly crying in the middle of the street, with mascara running down her face. She’s such a sorry sight that a kind old man stops and gives her his handkerchief.

But if that wasn’t bad enough, it turns out that Zoe is looking for a place to stay. And Joe has the bright idea of asking her to move in. Living with The Ex, and her fluffy cat Frazzle who leaves ginger hair everywhere, is Alice’s idea of hell. Especially when she finds Joe and Zoe singing and dancing in the kitchen as they cook chilli con carne together, or sneaking off to the pub without her.

Losing her job was one thing, but now it looks like she might also lose her boyfriend and her home Just how on earth is she going to turn this around?

Totally booked UK Review: While bar work might not have been what she had in her life plan, she finds it more fulfilling than her time training to be a solicitor. With a drop in income, Joe suggests that they get a lodger to cover her share whilst she thinks about what she would like to do in the future. One problem, a big problem actually… It’s Joe’s ex-girlfriend from Uni, someone that he once loved – would he fall back in love with her whilst they are under the same roof?

I liked that the book touched on Alice having problems in most areas of her life, just like the rest of us. Although, whilst it was an easy-ish story to follow, I wasn’t enthralled enough to want to see what happened next.

Thank You, Next: A perfect, uplifting and funny romantic comedy by Sophie Ranald

Published 30th November 2020

Format: Paperback, Audiobook and Kindle Edition
Pages: 338

A feel-good, fresh and fabulous page-turner for anyone who has torn their hair out over their love life, drank their weight in wine to survive an awful date, or stared at their phone, willing it to ring. Fans of rom-coms by Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk will absolutely love this laugh-out-loud tale.

Thank You, Next by Sophie Ranald

Twenty-eight-year-old Zoe really doesn’t want to end up being a crazy old cat lady. As a chef, she’s used to sharp knives and getting burned, but she didn’t realise that being single was just as dangerous. There are some dates even an extra-large glass of wine can’t fix.

There was the guy who turned up drunk, face-planted on the floor, and smelt like he was 90% tequila. He deserves a special mention because she’s sure she spotted an ankle tag beneath his trousers.

Plus the dullest guy in the universe whose idea of sexy talk was droning on about pensions and ‘prudent financial planning’.

Not to mention the one who didn’t even bother to show, leaving her sitting all alone in a bar, staring into her empty glass and dying a bit inside.

After Zoe says ‘thank you, next’ to every dud, her friend Robbie has an idea. He’s a dating machine and he bets that if she takes his love-life advice, her luck will change. Will there ever be a guy who makes her say, ‘Thank you, yes’? Or should Zoe just admit defeat and start stockpiling cats?

He's Cancelled by Sophie Ranald

When he proposed, I had to pinch myself. Up until then, his most romantic gesture was buying me a 128-piece tool kit.
It’s normal to get cold feet, right? But what about a case of frozen get-me-the-heck-out-of-here feet?

When Natalie’s boyfriend gets down on one knee (even if it’s because he trips and drops the ring) it’s meant to be the start of their happy ever after. But planning a wedding to coffee shop owner Archie feels like she’s competing in the Hunger Games…

She’s up against a future mother-in-law who enforces a pre-wedding diet with portions you need a microscope for.
She’s cornered by a bridesmaid-zilla sister-in-law who forces her old wedding dress on Nat, featuring satin bows, way too much tulle and a bodice that Nat doesn’t even have the boobs for.
She fends off a best man who tries to kiss her by kneeing him in the crotch.
And she has to defeat a pushy wedding planner who insists on peacocks, doves and pink flamingos at the ceremony.

Nat would wear her battle scars with pride if Archie was by her side. But her fiancé is missing in action, refusing to help her deal with his diva family and going AWOL on the stag do. With just weeks to go, she might have to do the unthinkable… Is it too late to cancel? And if she’s not Archie’s bride-to-be then who on earth is she?

Santa, Please Bring Me a Boyfriend by Sophie Ranald

As snowflakes fall like icing sugar, I smile at him and feel an unmistakeable spark. And I realise I don’t just fancy the (taut, muscular) arse off this man – a man who probably doesn’t even know I exist – but I actually like him…

This Christmas, Rowan has a long list for Santa:

  • To get her sex life out of the Sahara
  • To stop being the lonely singleton in her friendship group (aka the prime target for blind dates that go horribly wrong)
  • To find out where her confidence went (note to self: check under the sofa)
  • To have someone to curl up with this Christmas, other than a tin of Quality Street

But having had more than her fair share of heartbreak thanks to her ex – with more off-again and on-again than Rachel and Ross – she’s starting to think that real love is just wishful thinking…

But Rowan’s friends aren’t so quick to give up, arranging and advent calendar idea to help get her spark back. And while the gifts make Rowan feel festive – glittery bubble bath, anyone? – what she really wants to unwrap is the guy who delivers them, Alex. With his soft Scottish accent, infectious grin and blue eyes as twinkly as fairy lights, Rowan wouldn’t mind finding him in her stocking this Christmas…

Rowan has no clue how to put her heartache behind her and get his attention. Is she brave enough to open the door in mid-December wearing nothing but her new sexy lingerie and shiny lip gloss? Are twenty-five days enough to get her mojo back or will she have to send a strongly-worded letter to Santa after all…?
