Sophia Money-Coutts is a journalist who spent five years studying the British aristocracy while working as Features Director at Tatler. Prior to that she worked as a writer and an editor for The Evening Standard and The Daily Mail in London, and The National in Abu Dhabi. The contemporary romance author spends most of her time writing at her kitchen table in West London and making 59 cups of tea a day.

Sophia Money-Coutts hopes to carry on writing new books that make people laugh forever. Because we could all do with more of a laugh, these days, couldn’t we? Sometimes, if she’s not drinking lukewarm cups of tea in her leggings at home, she appears on radio and television talking about important topics such as Prince Harry’s wedding and the etiquette of the threesome.

The Plus One by Sophia Money-Coutts

The Plus One [n] informal a person who accompanies an invited person to a wedding or a reminder of being single, alone and absolutely plus none

Polly’s not looking for ‘the one’, just the plus one…

Polly Spencer is fine. She’s single, turning thirty and only managed to have sex twice last year (both times with a Swedish banker called Fred), but seriously, she’s fine. Even if she’s still stuck at Posh! magazine writing about royal babies and the chances of finding a plus one to her best friend’s summer wedding are looking worryingly slim.

But it’s a New Year, a new leaf and all that. Polly’s determined that over the next 365 days she’ll remember to shave her legs, drink less wine and generally get her s**t together. Her latest piece is on the infamous Jasper, Marquess of Milton, undoubtedly neither a plus one nor ‘the one’. She’s heard the stories, there’s no way she’ll succumb to his charms…

Totally Booked UK Review: At the grand age of thirty, Polly’s love life isn’t hitting the high notes. Her friends around her are finding love and her best friend is getting married. Invitations to functions arrive addressed to Polly, not Polly plus one because she simply never has a plus one to take and everyone knows it.

An assignment for Posh! the magazine she works for sees her heading to Yorkshire to interview a Duke whose love life is often found splashed across the newspapers. Jasper turns out to be not quite the playboy that she imagined and an unlikely romance starts. Not that her friends think that this is a good thing or something that will last. Is Jasper really not a playboy? Are all her friends acting out of friendship?

The storyline worked so far into the book, however, the ending didn’t feel as though it had the build-up I would have expected.

‘So funny. And the sex is amazing!’

Jilly Cooper

‘No question about it, there are two little purple lines. I’m pregnant.’

What Happens Now? by Sophia Money-Coutts

After eight years together, Lil Bailey thought she’d already found ‘the one’ – that is, until he dumped her for a blonde twenty-something colleague. So she does what any self-respecting singleton would do: swipes right, puts on her best bra and finds herself on a first date with a handsome mountaineer called Max. What’s the worst that can happen?

Well it’s pretty bad actually. First Max ghosts her and then, after weeing on a stick (but mostly her hands), a few weeks later Lil discovers she’s pregnant. She’s single, thirty-one and living in a thimble-sized flat in London, it’s hardly the happily-ever-after she was looking for.

Lil’s ready to do the baby-thing on her own – it can’t be that hard, right? But she should probably tell Max, if she can track him down. Surely he’s not that Max, the highly eligible, headline-grabbing son of Lord and Lady Rushbrooke, currently trekking up a mountain in South Asia? Oh, maybe he wasn’t ignoring Lil after all…

The Wish List by Sophia Money-Coutts

‘You want me to write a list? Like a shopping list?’

‘Exactly. But for what you want from a man’

Florence Fairfax might have been single for quite a while – well, forever, actually – but she isn’t lonely. She loves her job at the little bookshop in Chelsea and her beloved cat Marmalade who keeps her company at night. She’s perfectly happy, thank you.

So when Florence meets an eccentric love coach who asks her to write a wish list describing her perfect man, she refuses to take it seriously. Until later that week, Rory, a handsome blond man with the sexual athleticism of James Bond she asked for just happens to walk into the bookshop…

Rory seems to tick all of the boxes on Florence’s list. But is she about to discover there’s more to love than being perfect on paper?

Totally Booked UK Review: Meet Florence, a thirty-two-year-old woman who lives with her half-sisters in Kennington London. She works in a bookstore in Chelsea and likes things in order. A compulsive counting habit, she plays consequences to decide whether she is going to have a good day or a bad one. Odd numbers are not good, whereas even numbers reflect a positive outcome.

She’s never had a boyfriend, although she’s had some one-night stands and someone she scared off in uni. Love is not something that is necessarily missing from her life, but her family feel that it is. Her stepmother sends her to see a love coach, who makes her write a wish list of qualities that she’d like in a boyfriend.

Is it the universe aligning or just a coincidence that Rory appears in her bookstore ticking the items off her wishlist? Soon she is melting at his touch and almost everyone loves him, but she doesn’t quite feel part of his political lifestyle and social circle. Is he really the man of her dreams? Are they really the qualities that she is looking for in a man?

‘A laugh-out-loud book…the perfect summer escape’

Lindsey Kelk

You never forget the one that got away, do you?

Did You Miss Me? by Sophia Money-Coutts

Nell Mason is extremely happy with her life – or at least, that’s what she tells herself. She’s lucky to have a high-powered job as a lawyer, even if it does come with an eccentric set of billionaire divorce clients. And she’s absolutely fine living with her sweet, if slightly dull, boyfriend Gus in their London flat where they have very sensible sex once (OK, sometimes twice) a week. She’s definitely not stuck in a rut.

But when Nell bumps into childhood friend and first love Arthur Drummond who broke her heart fifteen years ago, she’s more than a little shaken. The seemingly perfect life she’s worked so hard for starts to feel, well, less perfect. Maybe Nell’s been kidding herself all these years. Can she ever get over her first love?
